  2. 2. Draw

Draw from the ICE WHISPERS™ deck: the 24 Elder Futhark runes and Wyrd, the blank rune.

The deck

The ICE WHISPERS™ rune deck

ICE WHISPERS rune card back with snowflake designICE WHISPERS Elder Futhark rune deck cover

ICE WHISPERS™ is a Nordic rune oracle deck of 25 cards: the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark — the oldest runic alphabet — and Wyrd, the blank rune of what is not yet written. Every card is original artwork in ice, starlight and northern light.

The meanings build on the traditional rune meanings, written for modern questions: each rune has an upright and a reversed reading, and its own meaning for love, work, money, decisions and challenges.

This website is the deck’s digital companion. A physical edition is planned — join the waitlist for updates.

Created by Tracy J Hoffman, inspired by a childhood surrounded by her mother’s tarot cards, astrology and crystals—and brought to life through Nordic imagery and AI.

Questions & answers

About rune readings

Do you have any free readings?

+

Yes — one free rune card reading every day. It works like a free tarot or oracle reading, but with cards made for the runes: you ask your question, draw a card from the ICE WHISPERS™ deck and get a reading that answers it. No account and no card needed. If you want to keep asking, you can unlock 24 hours of readings in every spread with a one-time payment, or join ICE WHISPERS+ for all spreads and a private rune journal.

How does an online rune reading work?

+

You write your question, draw a rune from the ICE WHISPERS™ deck and turn the card. The reading then answers your exact question — starting with a clear direction (such as Likely yes, Not yet or Unclear), followed by what the rune shows about your situation and one concrete piece of advice.

What are the Elder Futhark runes?

+

The Elder Futhark is the oldest runic alphabet, used by Germanic and Norse peoples from roughly the 2nd to the 8th century. It has 24 runes in three families of eight, called ætts. Each rune is both a sound and a symbol with its own meaning — Fehu for wealth, Raidho for journeys, Berkano for growth — which is why they are used for divination today.

What is the blank rune, Wyrd?

+

Wyrd is the blank rune — the 25th card in the ICE WHISPERS™ deck. It was not part of the historical Elder Futhark; it was added in modern rune sets in the 1980s. It stands for what is not yet written: an outcome that depends on choices still to be made.

Can the runes answer yes or no questions?

+

Yes. When your question asks for an outcome, the reading starts with a direction — Yes, Likely yes, Possibly, Unclear, Not yet, Unlikely or No — based on the rune you drew and whether it is upright or reversed. It then explains why.

What does a reversed rune mean?

+

A reversed rune is not simply the opposite or a “blocked” version of its upright meaning. It usually points to the shadow side of the rune: something leaking, delayed, misused or unresolved. Runes that look the same upside down, such as Gebo, Isa and Dagaz — and the blank Wyrd — are never read reversed.

What is the Three Norns rune spread?

+

Three Norns is a three-rune spread named after the Norns of Norse mythology: Urd (what has been), Verdandi (what is now) and Skuld (what may come). The reading combines all three runes into one answer to your question.

What is the Five Rune Cross?

+

The Five Rune Cross is a deeper five-rune spread: the heart of the situation in the center, the past influence to the left, where it is heading to the right, guidance above and the hidden challenge below. All five runes are read together as one answer.

What should I ask the runes?

+

Ask about something that matters to you right now — love, work, money, a decision or a challenge. Specific questions get the clearest answers: “Should I accept the new job offer?” works better than “What will happen in my life?”.

Is the reading written by AI?

+

The rune is drawn at random, like pulling a card from a real deck. The reading is then written by AI, guided by the traditional meanings of each rune — upright and reversed, in love, work, money and more — so it answers your actual question instead of reciting a dictionary entry.

Which languages can I ask in?

+

Any language. Ask in Swedish, Spanish, German or English and the reading answers in the language of your question.

Is rune reading fortune telling?

+

Rune readings are for reflection, insight and entertainment. They can help you see a situation from a new angle, but they are not a prediction you have to follow — you always make your own decisions.
